California Ranks as State Less Dependent on the Federal Government

While many states may need aid from the federal government to cover budget shortfalls caused by the coronavirus pandemic, some state economies were already more federally dependent before the crisis.

In its third annual study, SmartAsset examined data to uncover the states that are most reliant on the federal government.

Out of all 50 states, California ranks as the state that is 13th-least dependent on the federal government in SmartAsset’s study.
